Assessing the subgrade bearing capacity is essential in the planning and building of road infrastructure. Traditional techniques, including the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) and soil density assessments, are frequently time-intensive and invasive. The utilization of a Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD) provides a rapid and effective non-destructive testing option. The relationship between the LWD modulus of elasticity (Evd), field CBR, and soil density necessitates additional refinement for specific local soil conditions.
This study seeks to establish an empirical correlation model linking Evd (LWD), field CBR, and soil density to estimate subgrade bearing strength. Assessments were performed at many road construction locations featuring diverse soil compositions and density variations. Linear and nonlinear regression analysis were employed to derive the optimal correlation model.
The findings demonstrate a robust correlation between Evd and CBR, with a coefficient of determination (R²) over 0.85 for the optimal model. Soil density greatly enhances Evd and CBR values. The resultant empirical model serves as an effective method for the quick assessment of subgrade bearing strength.
